The Not So Weekly Album Wrap Up (New Years 2017)

Well it's been a long year, for me it meant applying for colleges (which I really need to finish, I've been slacking), getting a job, getting a car and a laptop, listening to a lot of music, and finally recording my first huge project. So here we are Donald Trump presidency and all ready to start all over again.

Anyways here's my thought on some albums I've listened to recently.

Spoiler for vektor:

Finally got around to the new Vektor album. Final verdict: why the **** did I wait this long to listen to this exactly? What is wrong with me? The melodies are insane, those riffs are face melting, the vocals shred in all the right, those tight ass drums. It's literal thrash metal perfection and I can't find something wrong with it. 9/10

Spoiler for lisabo:

I saw this on someone's 10/10 list so I decided to check it out, and while I wasn't blown away I did have a fun time listening to this. There's just something about this sort of band lineup that gets me to at least somewhat enjoy an album like this, no matter what. 6/10

Spoiler for kalahari surfers:

Next up is a South African experimental rock group called Kalahari Surfers. This is a strange album to say in the least. It's blend of jazz, alt rock, sound collage, and um other stuff... is really something you have to hear to understand. The lyrics are great, the playing is great, everything about the album just works in its favor. While there is filler, the majority of this album is just totally a wonderful unique experience. 7/10

Spoiler for xxxtentacion:

Xxxtentacion for those who don't already know is a very talented rapper from Florida who is currently gaining a lot of popularity in the underground hip hop scene, think Denzel Curry, SGP, Suicideboys, BONES, etc. Currently he is in jail, but before he was locked up he put out this little gem of an EP. The EP itself has no rapping and is instead more or less lo-fi indie, believe it or not. Songs range from Linkin Park esque alt rock (not as bad as you think), and the others are ballads that remind of Teen Suicide or anything Sam Ray related. It's actually performed quite well with some electronics and acoustics coming into the mix usually within the same song. I'd like to see where this guy goes once he gets released. 7/10

Spoiler for qebrus(*^%:

And finally this monstrosity by electronic producer qebrus. "How much further could interesting electronic music move into the void past Autechre?", I asked myself. The answer was stumbling upon this. The synthwork, glitched out rhythms, and electroacoustic noise hisses are just flawless. Everything just meshes together in the coolest way without ever becoming too obtuse and inaccessible . 8/10
