In some ways the divide between the alt-right and the more traditional GOP is greater than the divide between the left and the right right now. It's really unprecedented.
The rise of the Tea Party and politicians like Palin, Bachmann, Walker, and Cruz has split the GOP deeply. And Trump has taken the "outsider" stance to ride the coattails of that.
Think about it, you have the guy (Paul Ryan), whose currently 3rd in line to the presidency, not endorsing or campaigning for the GOP candidate, but yet is scared to death about coming out and denouncing the guy.
Unprecedented.
