ANNNNND, WE'RE BACK!

Frown would be the one to recommend me an album without a cover photo on Google images under 1200x1200, so I guess we'll just move on without one.

Jan.1 EP by Girl Pusher

There's only 3 tracks on this thing and it's well under 6 minutes in length, so this will be a rather short review.

Tourist: Nice synth based beat. The vocals join the mix and are impossible to make out, but seem like some heavily distorted female screamed rap lyrics? I suppose you would call this cyberpunk? I'm not familiar with the genre but I know enough to assume that's what she's going for with this. Decent track, but in some ways it kind of reminds me the synth version of nu-metal.

Most Lonely: This is the longest track on the project, although that's not saying much considering it's only 2 and a half minutes long. The beat slaps, I'm feeling it so far. There's some noisy sampling and she's half singing/half harmonizing in the background. I like this one a lot. The beat feels somewhat trap inspired, but has a lot of depth to it as well. Her voice is kind of cute and sweet, and the way that contradicts the dark and grimy instrumental makes for a cool dynamic.

I Have A Marvellous Persona - This girl thinks she MC Ride now? Definitely a noisy, Death Grips-esque track here, but the instrumental isn't as abstract and abrasive as her voice is. That one was over before it ever really got going, unfortunately.

I feel kind of strange about that one. It was far too short to really develop too much of an opinion on, but there were moments I thought were really neat. It was definitely cool to see a female vocalist in such a noisy, abrasive act, but at the same time two of three songs ended before ever gaining much momentum.

Final Verdict: Despite the length, I can't say that I didn't like a large majority of the project, so it's a definite pass on Girl Pusher. I'm listening to a few live tracks from them now (looks like a duo?) and I think I might look into some of their other stuff, I'm intrigued.
