I'm not to familiar with the differences since the only real freak folk I'm familiar with is Exuma and Who's Masquerade (possibly).

If you said Acid Folk/Psychedelic Folk I would be all on board with it, but you want to do Avant-Folk/Avant-Garde Folk.
I literally don't know know anything about it.
