I can already sense that from one listen. My beef is a simpleton's beef: It's too long. The intros and interludes all go on for too long. I'm not sold on the vocals. Maybe too Maidenly. The content has to be complimented with sonic aesthetics. Like Exhorder makes their point with SOUND. But if you say so I'll give it a few more spins.

It's not as intense as a death thrash album, but it's A.) got an atmosphere that your average neanderthal thrash album does not have, and B.) the technical intricacies of the music (and I am not a tech head) create a claustrophobic feeling that accentuates that nihilistic atmosphere.
It's a "dark" album, and it probably does require more than one or two listens to really grok. This was the song that really got me after repeated listens when I burned it onto a mixed thrash CD back when I was a teenager, and it's what's made this album my top Dark Angel album up till this day. It's brutal, but not in as obvious a way as Exhorder, it's emotionally relentless. And honestly the vocals are a large part of what makes it work, since you can not only understand what the singer is saying, but you can listen to what he's saying while taking him seriously as a story teller since he's not just some guy screaming or wailing.
