I understand and accept your second point, about stifling discussion.
Not sure I get the other objections though. Can't a poll be made by anybody, not just the mods? And a poll can be a single-vote poll, the single vote being the one you are wanting to vote off for that round.
Anyway, it was just an idea, not something I'll lose sleep over.
