This weekend I finally laid claim to my first physical copies of Pete Namlook's Fax Records releases. Two multi-disc box sets - Die Welt ist Klang (A Tribute to Pete Namlook) contains 8 discs of original recordings, rare treasures, and tribute tracks contributed by artists from the Fax label and from fans alike. It is a wonderful keepsake celebrating the life and work of an important figure in the history of ambient electronic music.
The second set is the newly-issued collection of the classic The Dark Side of the Moog series, a collaboration between Namlook, Klaus Schulze, and Bill Laswell. The original issues of each volume were produced in very limited numbers and command insane prices when traded online. This new release, while similarly limited, is of sturdy construction, features eye-catching packaging, and so long as you grab it while the label still offers copies, is far more affordable than the individual volumes themselves.
I feel privileged to have claimed each for my collection.
