What's to understand there? People love the music, it resonates with them, it makes them feel good, it might make them want to dance, etc. No papers in aesthetics are going to help you understand that better. And you don't even have to talk to musicians and songwriters for it. It just doesn't make much sense to me why that would seem incomprehensible or difficult to scrutinize to you.
Just out of curiosity, what music did you grow up with? What were your parents listening to when you were, say, 4 or 5 years old? What were you listening to when you first became interested in music yourself at whatever age that was--7, 10, 13 . . . whenever it was?
