Apparently I haven't shared my new listens & purchases in this thread since December 1, so I've got some catching up to do. I did spend a lot of time last month creating a Top 100 tracks of 2015 list to share with friends, along with my year-end top 10+ albums list. Anyway here's the new stuff I've listened to since (downloads and streams). I'll skip a few of the less interesting things for everyone's sake.
The Black Dog -
Neither/Neither (2015)
I hadn't listened to the last few Black Dog releases but a colleague mentioned it, so I checked it out. Only two plays so far but I think it's quality - more chill up front and then some more punchy tunes in the later half.
Naomi Punk -
The Feeling (2012)
I've only played it once all the way through but it's some interesting punk, not fronted by a female as their name might suggest. Garage/post-punkish I think.
Pink Floyd -
1965: Their First Recordings (2015)
I forgot this was coming out and didn't try to score a copy, but I downloaded it. Interesting early Floyd material worth checking out if you like the early Syd stuff.
Fake Palms -
Fake Palms (2015)
This has a good bit in common with Viet Cong, and they're also from Canada. Somehow a little more gritty in the production, and lacks the more polished and truly great songs like "Continental Shelf" from Viet Cong's album. But if you dig that sound, check this out.
André Bratten -
Gode (2015)
A chill tech house/IDM album from a Norwegian producer. Good for the commutes.
Ilitch -
10 Suicides (1980)
This caught my eye because it was just re-released. Never heard of this before that. Minimal wave, experimental, it was alright and would need more listens to sink in.
Clarence Clarity -
No Now (2015)
Alternative R&B, Glitch hop, etc. Some great cuts but the album as a whole was very long and ended up being a bit of a sensory overload.
American Wrestlers -
American Wrestlers (2015)
Lo-fi Indie Pop that I wish was a little less lo-fi. Nice tunes and melodies.
Royal Headache -
High (2015)
Power pop kinda like The Replacements I think. I'm still not sure about the guy's voice, but I could get used to it.
Surfer Blood -
1000 Palms (2015)
First time I've listened to a Surfer Blood album. I had it in my 2015 queue and a few tracks caught my attention, such as "Island" which is really great. A few others are good ("Point of No Return", "Dorian"), but after 3 listens I still wasn't loving the rest.
