When Microsoft introduced UEFI to replace the BIOS this made booting into Linux more difficult. With Windows 10 they made this even more difficult by removing the option to disable the UEFI in the boot menu. I've followed instruction guides on how to install Linux alongside Windows 10 but had no luck with any of them.
The alternative is to install Ubuntu in a virtual machine in Windows.
Oracle VirtualBox is the most popular free virtual box for Windows and it's relatively easy to install and run a Linux distro with it. You can also allocate as much or as little RAM as you want.
