Apple - you've outdone yourself again. Just when we thought you'd exhausted every possible means of screwing the buying public... you pull this.
Forbes reported today that the iPhone 7 will officially abandon the perfectly good global standard for a headphone jack in place of their proprietary lightning connector.
Now Apple can charge all headphone makers licensing fees for use of their connector. Beats are all now selling Lightning headphones, heavily promoted in Apple stores, as well as Audeze’s $799.95 EL-8 Titanium headphones.
Lightning is being positioned as the "high quality" option... ignoring the fact that the standard 50 cent audio that the rest of the planet uses delivers the SAME EXACT audio signal.
And BETTER STILL, Forbes notes, Apple customers will need to think twice about leaving the Mac OS/iOS ecosystem if it entails them investing in a new pair of premium headphones.
**** you, Apple. I'm putting coal in your stocking... with a Lightning port.
