I think Cobain opened a lot of people's eyes in terms of the naievity of music. He showed that while being rich and famous is well and all, it can also lead you to some 'worse' roads, like what happened to Marilyn Monroe etc. before him. I think the thing is, there are some bands who do just like you say, but The White Stripes did seem to put themselves out a lot to get themselves recognised. They were all over your magazines, radios, TVs and whatever. Get Behind Me Satan wasn't a third as much publicised, which is strange to me. If they put themselves out so much to get themselves recognised in the first place, why change?
