I'd rather challenge people by getting them to write stories based on themes and genres that are normally outside of their comfort zone. If you want to just post stories of yours, there is already a thread for that. This competition is all about becoming a more well rounded writer, by adapting to different circumstances and trying out new things. Even still, there will be competitions every now and then without a theme, to push people to come up with creative writing that isn't inspired by a theme or prompt.

I understand your point of view, and writing free form is definitely fun, but that isn't the entirety of what this competition is about.
