When you master a craft as he did you don't
have to be innovative. SRV is one of the top ten guitarists ever bar none. Not just blues guitar - he was a giant - all the greats (Clapton, Page, Beck (Jeff Beck), Blackmore, B.B. King etc etc have all stated that he was one of the best ever.
IMHO innovative guitarists are few and far between. The dude from RATM was probably the most recent groundbreaker - Eddie VH before that. $0.02
