edit- should clarify, by production i mean overall vibe from the beats... not production value in the more technical sense since obviously that continues to improve along with technology, simply as a function of time.

The Chronic and the answer is that I like them the same, I just think they have different strengths. I do think that the production on
The Chronic isn't as good as
2001 though (or
Compton for that matter). And I mean production in the usual way the word is used about music—the quality of the sounds and the way in which they fit together.
The Chronic is very mid-range sonically, the low end is flat and the high end often isn't strong either. This isn't a result of the march of time since there are much older albums that are better produced and even his production on
Doggystyle one year later is far better.
