Alright, here goes...

I got this recommendation based on a few artists I referenced who make off-the-wall, high energy, abrasive electronic music for people with short attention spans, largely by chopping up a bunch of other people's material and jamming it together in an interesting way. The key parts for me are the high level of energy and the idea that they're doing something interesting with it. I'm sorry to say, but simply lifting an entire Mr. Bungle song, essentially unaltered (as Now Is Fish do on track two of this four track album), or an entire L.A. Style song (as they do on track three) is really not that interesting to me. Neither is lifting an entire Raymond Scott track and playing two long dialogue samples over it (as they do on track one). I'm not familiar with their other source material, but it sounds like quite a bit of it gets the same uncreative treatment. Here's a long sample of a death metal song. Here's a sped up sample of an entire house song. Here's a long sample of some kind of instructional karate song. Their approach to making this kind of music seems lazy, and more importantly, it's boring. The fact that all four tracks on this album are in the vicinity of fifteen minutes in length makes it even more tedious.

All that said, this album does have its moments. There are a few parts that actually made me laugh out loud for one thing. There are also some pieces of it that do veer into the kind of inspired sonic madness that I was hoping for—my favorite being the part in the middle of track two where a sample of a Slayer riff quickly cuts to a sample of someone singing the riff before cutting right back to the riff again. It's hilarious and awesome and I really wish the rest of the album was up to that level of crazy, ridiculous genius. Though, honestly, even those long samples I was criticizing are at least samples of songs I like a lot so I certainly don't mind listening to them even if I do have them elsewhere in my music collection.
