Album: The Second Annual Report
Artist: Throbbing Gristle
Genre: Industrial
Suggested by: Frownland
Familiarity: I've been interested in checking out some of P-Orridge's stuff, but never heard any of it.
1. Industrial Introduction - Basically just a drone. Alright then. I mean, there have been longer intro songs (DSoTM).
2. 3. and 4. Slug Bait - Weird. Very impressive for a live show, actually. The lyrics are freaky. It's pretty funny too. Not catchy at all, but intriguing enough to last the entire song. I like how each rendition is different, making each song feel unique. The bass line is really cool in number 3. The lyrics are pretty screwed up (lol).
5. 6. 7. and 8. Maggot Death - Holy hell it's weird. I like it though. So far, pretty good. The studio version is awesome.
Probably the Southampton is my least favorite. The Brighton one wasn't really even any song there. Just spoken word.
9. After Cease to Exist - Calming and expressionist. I expected to hate it, but it's actually not half-bad. Especially because it doesn't repeat itself. There are all these cool, yet creepy ideas, all mixed together. Pretty cool stuff, all in all. The kind of stuff you put on in the background while you do something else.
It's a weird album, and while it's hard to tolerate listening to it all the way through on its own, I started playing some agar.io late into the last song, and it began seeming like the most interesting thing ever. Anyways, not great, but not horrible either.
OVERALL RATING: 7/10
