Of the many songs in this thread, some of the stand outs for me are:-
> Standing outside a broken phone booth...
> Ballerina out of control
and on this page:-
> How bizarre
> Lucas with the lid off
Thanks for these recommendations, which are all new to me, and thanks to Jackhammer for explaining that T.Rex did plenty more than just Get It On. In fact that song isn’t their best pop effort; I think that prize should go to Ride a White Swan. Anyway, here are some of my fave one-hit wonders:-
1984: Inspired by a flight of red balloons released over the Berlin Wall, pop goes the Cold War:-
1967: The heroism of delivery men is not a common topic for a pop song, so credit is due for that bold decision but unfortunately, forty-eight years later, it’s difficult to take the lachrymose story of Grocer Jack as seriously as Keith West did at the time:-
1969: Thunderclap Newman were a rag bag of musicians including a Post Office engineer (who contributes what I think is called ”stride piano”) and a fifteen-year-old Jimmy McCulloch. Put together by Pete Townsend and Kit Lambert (of Dr. Who fame) their one hit, against all the odds, still sounds pretty good imo:-
