Things that never happened:-
Strictly speaking, David Livingstone didn't discover the Victoria Falls. The local Africans had known it was there all the time. When they took him to see Mosi-oa-Tunya ("the smoke that thunders"), he just renamed it and spread its fame elsewhere. To my mind, that's not discovering in the true sense, the way Madam Curie discovered radium.
