And since I missed Friday, this'll be the 2nd post today to make up for it.
One aspect of the Star Wars video game franchise that I think people tend to dismiss more than anything else is the usage of vehicles in certain areas of the games. I'm not really the biggest fan of racing missions and things of that nature, but there's obviously a lot of thought that goes into the design of some of the racers / vehicles that you can find throughout the Star Wars video game universe, and i'm going to point some of those things out:
First off, let's start with the obvious one...
Swoop Bike
Throughout Kotor 1 and Kotor 2, you'll find yourself getting involved in Swoop Bike racing a few times during different missions on different planets. Some people find them to be completely pointless, whereas other people find them enjoyable. I think it brings an added experience to the game if you grow tired of running around and fighting bad guys. I personally have always loved the Swoop Bike portions of the games, because the game does a pretty good job at making you feel an adrenaline rush when you get to the top speeds. Plus, it's fun to try to be your own scores.
Next one is also an obvious one, but I feel it should be mentioned:
Podracing
Simply put, Podracing is awesome. And to have a game revolve around the art of Podracing is honestly the coolest thing ever. Like I said before, I'm not the biggest fan of racing style gaming, but the obvious time it took to design some of the pod-racers for the games and movies is amazing. I always liked to imagine what it'd be like to have Podracing as an actual sport in our day and age. We have drag racing, we have just standard car racing, so I'd imagine people would really get into podracing if it were a thing that existed. Hell, I think it'd be great to participate in something like that, even though it's extremely dangerous.
Now onto something different...
Starships / Star Fighters
So not only do we have games that focus on the vehicles that are meant for closer to ground racing, we also have games that features piloting a freakin' ship.
Star Wars: Starfighter is one of them. I think one of the coolest things about knowing the existence of such things is just realizing that even in a game, you have the ability to fly around to different areas of space, and fight off enemy star ships to secure the defense of your allies. And even though we are talking about Starships, I obviously don't want to leave out the most important one...
Ebon Hawk
Yes, the Ebon Hawk. In Kotor 1 and Kotor 2, you'll find that having the Ebon Hawk as part of your vehicle arsenal is by far the most important parts of the game. Imagine if the game were made for just having to get around on foot, it'd probably take years for you to even get from one planet to the next. With the help of the Ebon Hawk, you get to experience the game and the Star Wars galaxy within the games much easier and quicker. Possibly one of the most important vehicles that i've run into in the games, even though my knowledge of the older games isn't that great.
