I know and love both of those records and I can sort of see the Waits comparison with some of This Heat's percussion on some tracks, but I can't really see it in The Residents tbh. Experimental music isn't really your thing, so you don't have too large of a frame of reference to pull from and that often leads you to bringing up a Waits comparison even though there are many other better examples that make a Waits comparison seem kind of inappropriate. It's not a bad thing, we like you just how you are.
Okay maybe less dad jokes but otherwise you're cool.

Ja, as far as his studio albums go Rain Dogs is my favourite as well. I had forgotten to mention Big Time, a live album that's leaps and bounds better than any of his solo albums imo.
