for many motivations you might be right... but when it comes to a career/job i think it's pretty clear the basic role they play is to provide a person with the resources necessary to live. that is the basic reason we engage in these activities, when you get right down to it.
and any further roles they play, like the fulfillment of a job well done etc, sort of require you digging a bit deeper into evolutionary psychology to explain those motivations, which is why i took that route.
edit- not to say you might not choose a specific job for reasons other than money. but the reason you need a job in general is to provide for yourself. and if you don't actually agree with the law, then its kind of hard to imagine why you would choose to be a cop other than for pragmatic reasons relating to the need to have a job in the first place.
