Title: Computers and blues
Artiste: The Streets
Genre: Hip-hop
Track 1 (Love) Don't like the mad computer noises that start it, the repetition but then some decent horns and I like the melody here.
Track 2 (Love) Rockier, bit more aggressive. Good guitar work. Like the female vocal.
Track 3 (Love) Really hate the autotune on the female vocal, but it's sporadic and the rest of the song is good enough for me to overlook that.
Track 4 (Love) This one is okay but not as good as the others. Clever lines referring to crosswords.
Track 5 (Love) This is a great track, lots of energy and very catchy; love the strings keyboards
Track 6 (Love) This is almost new-wave ballad territory, really nice.
Track 7 (Love) Not crazy about this one; very seventies soul but it's good all right
Track 8 (Love) The melody in this just gets me. Love this one.
Track 9 (Love) Really like this one too; very catchy with good backing vocals
Track 10 (Hate) Can't really say I like this; bit rushed but it's quite short
Track 11 (Love) The first of two tracks featuring Laura Vane; track really benefits from her contribution. Like the way it switches from slow to fast and back
Track 12 (Love) The other song with Vane on it; another great melody
Track 13 (Love) Great orchestral hits at the start, then it goes all soul/funk. Cool.
Track 14 (Love) Kind of jazzy; nice way to end the album. Like the trumpets. Touch of Prince in there too.
End result: Another fine album from the guy who brought you
A grand don't come for free. No ranting about bitches or niggas, quite upbeat mostly, no real lyrics about violence, gangs or guns. Absolutely refreshing. Wish all hip-hop followed this formula.
So, Love or Hate? As expected, serious
