Paranautical Activity
This game is awesome. It came out roughly around the time that I was really starting to find my love of rogue-like games like The Binding of Isaac. I mean, I knew of the genre, but I wasn't too familiar with the mechanics etc. This game takes that concept and really goes a different way with it, but in such a cool way. Paranautical Activity in simple words is a rogue-like quake style cube world-esque first person shooter game. That may seem a little overwhelming, but trust me, the developer for this really made it work, and with the addition of such an awesome soundtrack done by macaskill really makes the game as good as I think it is. The one thing I really like about it however is how freakin' difficult it is. I mean, I've had the game since it's initial release back in October of 2014, and I've yet to be able to get past the first level, or floor, or whatever you wanna call it. It's not so much that the gameplay mechanics are hard to get used to, the enemies are at a pretty high level of difficulty, which I personally really like. The game basically makes you learn how to adapt and figure your way out of sticky situations from the get go, and it being a random generated style game, makes it even more difficult, because you don't know what boss you'll be put up against, or if you've ever even seen the boss before.
If you're still not sold on it, think of this game as a first person shooter Binding of Isaac. It's got the upgrades throughout the floors, the boss rooms, the treasure rooms, etc etc. However at the same time, I don't want to say that it's copying Binding of Isaac necessarily, it's just using a popular form of gameplay and using it for the sake of making a great game. I do sincerely hope that the developer keep up the good work on this game, because it really is a remarkable work of art that they've created. Everything about the game works smoothly and wonderfully and as mentioned, the soundtrack just makes the experience that better.
