What were your impressions of this album after the first five minutes?
Very 60;s Los Angeles psych sounding. Like the Doors.
Did those first impressions change as you listened to the album?
No
Were the opening 2-3 tracks or the closing 2-3 tracks stronger?
Opening tracks by a large margin.
Did you find you enjoyed this album more or less on repeated listens?
About the same

Fresh Garbage. Wish the entire album was more like this.

"Water woman" seemed kind of inane musically and lyrically
What did you think of the variety of tracks presented?
Not a ton of variety but enough
How would you describe the overall mood?
Laid back jazzy LA psych
Would you listen to it again for purposes other than this club?
Probably not. I like it alright but like later Spirit better or would just listen to the Doors.
How well do you know this band/artist?
Never gone deep in their catalog but know some of the stuff.
If you're familiar with this band/artist, how does this album compare to their other work?
A little more jazzy and psychedelic than I was used to from them. Heavy use of strings on this album.

Less strings, more rocking.

No
Will you be exploring this band/artists' other material?
Sure
What did you think of the vocals?
Nothing special but not bad.
What did you think of the instrumentation?
Pretty standard for the time it was recorded.
What did you think of the production?
Hard to tell on Youtube but did not seem great
Any other thoughts to share?
I guess I like the later Spirit years a bit better. Like 12 dreams of Dr. Sardonicus. Just more concise songwriting, less strings, but also less psychedelic. Check out "Mr. Skin" and "Natures Way" from that album. And I still don't think Stairway was close enough to Taurus to be lawsuit worthy. Sure it had the same descending bass line but other songs use that same technique. But I have no doubt Page may have borrowed the idea.
Rate the album out of ten. No decimals!
