It's probably not something controllable. Humanity is bound by humanity's shortcomings and/or tendencies. We will always care about our appearance to the world. If we don't, we're usually the ones cast aside because we end up as the slobs of the world or the afflicted that cannot think outside of themselves in order to function socially. There's a legitimately motivating social function involved with fitting in. It's kinda how society works on a broad scale. What we see with people that claim to "not care" who are also offended by people that insult our sensibilities is just evidence of a typical ego problem. Someone that can judge others in every way, irrelevant of whether it's internal our not, but can't handle the same coming back. It seems to me such a thing is based on an individual's misguided sense of self. Sure, it's great to be confident in one's own self image, but when that confidence excludes any possibility of being incorrect, there's an ego problem.
I say all that to say, while I might be completely wrong, I still reserve the right to express what I currently believe until someone comes along and educates me on why it is not a valid perspective.
I'm waiting. Not as a challenge, but as a will to understand people better minus the bullsh
it part about people's feelings being hurt. This isn't the place for that crap.
