i do believe london calling was a punk rock album but on a more complex level. the lyrics to the songs were bringing up 'punk' ideas back then, such as problems in the society in england and the world. they had serious matters on their minds. you don't see the eagles writing about that kind of stuff.
i can understand your point, but saying they hardly and any pure punk rock albums is just absurd. they started when punk was becoming a huge thing in society, they were the leaders alongside with a few others, so who's to say they had no punk in their music?
