as far as the progressive issue? rock's rock to me. progressive has always meant more a format than a specific type of music. format like in the radio playlist sense. we have a public radio station that comes from a college campus here in baltimore. you can hear johnny cash then next the grateful dead...then muddy waters...then coheed and cambria, rancid, and jack white and lorretta lynn. that's progressive to me. the songs don't follow any sort of pigeon-holed idea of a specific genre. it's just rock. rock's rock.
i'm new here and i chose this rock/metal forum because it best describes my taste. i get the feeling i'm a bit older than the average contributor here and i like that because i get new ideas on what could be worth listening too. but not if i have to wade through a bunch of bullsh$t to get to useful suggestions.
my vote? bring on the new forum, leave the crap at the door man!

I respect you. Its nice to see someone who can express their opinion in a civilized manner. I would really like to find a way however to separate fans of newer rock from the fans of older rock music or dare i say classic rock like myself. I am tired of saying something about zeppelin, floyd, beatles, etc. and having someone who does not and apparently cannot appreciate them say sometihng ignorant like zeppelin sucks or keep kissing zeppelins ass etc. If there was a way of keeping those who have no interest in classic rock bands out and into their own forum of more modern music i think it would be greatly benificial. Is there anyone else out there who agrees or is it just me? Slipknot and the Beatles just dont seem to me like they should share the same forum.
