I've tried a few.
Initially my doc gave my fluoxetine for just general anxiety symptoms which really didn't do much quite honestly, especially for higher pressure situations like public speaking.
On a second visit she suggested propranolol, which essentially helps control high blood pressure. I've found to be very effective in preventing the type of unwanted reactions that manifest when you're in that kind of fight or flight situation, like a racing heart, red face, sweating etc. I brushed it off and asked for xanax instead, which she reluctantly gave me, and rightfully so. In going back for follow up visits, I've found the propranolol is far more effective in helping with the physical symptoms of anxiety. xanax might be helpful with mild, situational issues.
