Artist: David Bowie
Album: Hunky Dory
Year: 1971
Genre: Pop rock/art rock
Bowie is an artist I have but little musical knowledge of, despite having heard of him many times. If you asked me about him three days ago, I'd bow my head and shamefully admit to only having heard "Let's Dance", "Suffragette City" and "Under Pressure", which is really a Queen song.
I chose this one only because of all the critical acclaim it seems to get (and because Ziggy Stardust was taken by Pet_Sounds ), and I can see why people are praising it. The arrangements are well-done, the songs are well-written for the most part, and some the hooks are just begging to be remembered. "Changes" has been stuck in my head for a day now, "Andy Warhol", has a hella neat acoustic riff, and "Life on Mars?" is about as close to pop perfection as you can get. Those are my favourite tracks for sure. I'm glad I listened to this, and I'm totally checking out Ziggy Stardust.
