There is a nice slick pop groove to a lot of Biggie's songs, but the way Puffy has to insert himself in every song with his little chants and asides gets annoying fast. I really like Biggie, I just don't think he is the be all and end all of rap.

Tupac is a tougher nut. The guy re-invented himself to become Thug Jesus, but it's hard to take him seriously, knowing he grew up in the Oakland Hills and went to Performance Arts school and all the rest. About as far removed from thug life as you can get. All his ridiculous misogynistic posturing was largely an act that I think he himself bought into. I enjoy some of his songs, but I find him kind of lightweight and not a particularly strong rapper, especially compared to some of the other, more serious minded brothers out there.

I know. Blasphemy. So be it.
Let us be heretics together.
