It's a business. As the industry has learned and adapted their methods for making money have become more refined leading us to what we have today. It is what it is. If you want to change it then you're going to have to take the record companies out Fight Club-style, otherwise they're going to keep churning out music on an assembly line cause that's what's worked for them so far. Maybe if I cared more about pop music as something other than a quick ear worm then I'd be more upset, but... eh.
