People have been taking pictures of themselves since the dawn of cameras. The only difference now is that A) we have someplace to put them (Facebook) other than some photo album nobody ever sees, and B) with digital cameras and cell phones we no longer have to worry about wasting film and the time needed to wait for developing said film, so nobody is worried about taking a bad pic of themselves, which means that people take off-the-cuff selfies rather than setting up a shot and then getting Uncle Ned or some homeless guy to do it for them. To be honest I'm finding myself more annoyed by people complaining about selfies than the actual selfies themselves these days. Quit whining about everything FFS.
