Say what you will about Chic but they did write their own songs AND played their instruments, unlike many of their contemporaries and some that followed them as well. However, I do differentiate between disco and funk, simply because the musicianship in funk music displayed a harder edge without question. Disco was definitely more "lighweight", so to speak. However, it was certainly more popular than funk without question. Be that as it may, there's room for both!
And YES...there IS a place for Chic in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, contrary to popular opinion. Hopefully they'll be inducted sometime in the near future.
