For the past two weeks or so if you have been in plug with me or even glanced over the shoutbox. You'd see me bitching about this cough I have lingering from a recent cold. All of the other cold symptoms are gone but this stupid cough doesn't want to go anywhere! It's annoying me and making me super grumpy. My writing projects all across the board have taken a huge hit.

On St. Paddys day in between taking Ibuprofen, Nyquil and a few shots of Bourbon I decided to throw on Sixx AM. The only tradition that I have for this day is that I like to make corned beef and cabbage which I made a bit too much and ended up having for lunch, dinner and breakfast the next day. I was thinking about getting a Guinness for the 9am drinking but I'm not that much of a beer fan plus I'd have to venture outdoors to get it and my cough acts up even more when I'm outside walking around. Back to Sixx:AM, I believe I only listened to their second album(This Is Gonna Hurt) maybe once to say I've heard it so I decided to really listen to it and pay more attention. I really don't know if I had any expecatations of this album going into it but I just decided to listen to it. I didn't try to compare it with their debut album like so many other people do. It is really great to go into an album with a blank slate. Now with all of that being said, boy was it generic and sounded extremely forced. The lyrics didn't come across as genuine as their debut album. The main reason I'm going to head down this route and compare the two is because just like the first album this second album was also paired with a book. I haven't read either of the books yet but I will one day. If the book has the same stories and same air of false sympathy to it, I will definitely have to avoid the second book all together. Usually, lyrics aren't a big deal to me and I just focus on the instrumentation being played but with Sixx:AM, I like to pay attention to the stories being told. Here is a sample of their excellent output in the lyrics department.

The traffic's backed up on the 405,
And the smog's so thick you can cut it with a knife,
But it gives me time,
To think about my life,
I take the 10 to the 5 to the 101,
I got a song sitting here on the tip of my tongue,
And the more I drive,
The more I feel alive.

So cringeworthy. There are about three tracks that I wouldn't mind hearing again but I think I will be happy avoiding this album again til a few years past and then I go through the same process of trying to remember why I haven't listened to this album much.

Lies of the Beautiful People
Spoiler for Sixx:A.M. Lies of the Beautiful People:

This song reminds me of a poem that I wrote one time with a similar theme. I believe that's why I gravitated towards it so much.

In the next day or two I may do a little recap of some SXSW bands that I'm really hyped about. If you have been in plug with me recently, you have most likely heard a few of the bands that I will cover.
