Also, while I recognise Korn's debut was quite influential in it's scene, there were other Metal scenes going on with their own groundbreaking albums that could be considered just as influential to up and coming Metal bands.

I second these feelings.
Korn gets a lot of hate they don't deserve, mainly because a lot of people hate nu-metal for some reason, and that album broke onto the mainstream in such a way it became a part of almost everyone's lives. Korn started something new by introducing it to a wider audience.
The debut definitely could be considered the most 'groundbreaking' in that it was among the darkest mainstream available at the time, but there was plenty of other more impressive things happening in the underground.
