Lyrics matter sometimes. Like, if I am listening to a song that is obviously geared towards having good lyrics and telling a story, they matter. So if they are trash in those types of songs, then I feel like the poor lyrics contribute to my disliking of it.

However, if it's clear that the lyrics are just something for the singer to say whilst the music takes the forefront, then I really don't care that much.

Obviously not the case for every song but that's generally how I look at it.
