For instance, Prince is a ******* towards his fans but I will always LOVE him because he is a great musician and he makes good music. So I know how to seperate the two as well as add the two.
Kiss on the other hand were average musicians who were brands. They were popular during the late 70s, early 80s because of their brand but if you really objectively critique their music and their musicianship it is really average and not that impressive. If you like them thats fine but I personally am not impressed with them.

Fair enough, but before Kiss became a brand as you call them, they had already recorded three studio albums that had had no commercial success but their image and style were already in place from their first album. So they were highly original from the word go and played a sound somewhat similar to the New York Dolls. They only made their breakthrough on their fourth album the live
Alive. Point here being, that before their commercial breakthrough and heavy marketing, they were already making a potent style of hard rock, that had little to do with them being commercial or not, and by and large they would've made the same music and had the same image whether they were successful or not. The only concession the band made to this for the sake of being commercial was the Destroyer album, which is why Bob Ezrin was brought in and the ill-advised pop/disco inspired Dynasty (even though I haven't heard it in years and could change my opinion of it)
I don't see what poor musicians has to do with much either, I mean loads of good bands weren't that great as musicians either. BTW Ace Frehley is usually ranked as one of the greatest hard rock/metal guitarists ever, so we have a conundrum here. Also I'd rank Paul Stanley as one of the best and most consistent songwriters of his generation.
