I'd say it's a wash on that film. However, I was very underwhelmed by the novel "2001: A Space Odyssey" but the film is fantastic. I haven't yet read The Shining but I do love the film. I didn't like the television version of The Stand nor did I like the novel, it's just too cheesy tbh.

Another King movie adapted from novel that was better was Stand By Me. I'd throw One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest on my list. Kesey is hit or miss for me, and I felt the Screenplay adaptation was unbelievable. Nicholson is Gold.
