People watch reality shows because they are often just guilty pleasures and ARE entertaining in some capacity. Majority of the time it's like watching a train wreck but you are compelled to watch this over produced train wreck happen that gets played off like it's reality when it's not. Reality Tv is really great from an investors stand point, low production values and high ratings so it's win win.

While everyone is off pretending like Reality Television is the worse thing in the world they are secretly closet fans and ARE watching at least one show.
