My current guilty pleasure: Robin Thicke -- "Blurred Lines"

I hate to say that this song, which I feel is a trite one with yet another man singing sexual stuff about women and discussing "getting blasted," as if that were a good thing, is one of my favorite songs on the radio right now.

Whenever it comes on (which is a lot, since it has been at #1 for quite a few weeks now in the U.S., I think), I am singing along happily in the car.

And though it bothers me that I don't know what the "blurred lines" refers to, that doesn't stop me from singing, even as I'm pondering what the title means.

My thought is that "blurred lines" might refer somehow to the blurred lines between the concepts of a "good" girl and a "bad" girl, since the old assumption that a "good girl" wouldn't like sex is, hopefully, dying out. Or do the 'blurred lines" refer to the non-existent line between humans and animals, since humans *are* animals?

I heard a brief radio interview in which Robin Thicke said he was playing some of his songs for his wife, who was dancing around to this one, and when it was over she asked him if they could play more like it instead of some of their serious, less peppy stuff. I could understand why the song made her want to dance.

Finally, he said that his grandpa heard the song before it was popular, and told him he had a hit! His grandpa was correct.

As an aside, I like the song, but I dislike the video. I always feel icky after watching the video. I think the reason I hate the video is that it shows all these women as silent, sexy people, as if that were all they were. It reminds me of how in Iran, the government doesn't allow women to sing publicly or make recordings of their music!

I do, however, like the sheep! But then I feel sorry for the sheep, too, because the sheep has been dragged into the video like a prop to make some statement about women being like cute animals, I guess, and I don't like it when people use animals for anything.

So all in all, I like this song even as it pisses me off, and I've listened to it around 3 times in the course of writing this post.
