The SYG law isn't immutable in its application, and hinges on specific factors. There would definitely be different results, given the particular details of a situation.

After reading that, think about the details of the Zimmerman case, and you can see why there may be a different outcome. It hinges on the actions taken by the individual claiming the SYG law, as the law isn't simply, "if you feel threatened, you don't have to run away, you can just kill".
