Basque is a language from the Northeast region of Spain and Southwest part of France, also known as the "Basque Region" (Basque: Euskal Herria) Long prosecuted by dictator Francisco Franco (for not being 100% Spanish purebred), Basque speakers were not allowed to speak the language or practice their traditions during the period after the Civil War. Since the end of the 1990s/early 2000s, the language has had a comeback because kids are learning it in school and the capital city (Bilbao) is using it everywhere again. The generation born between the 1950s-1970s have little/no knowledge of Basque. Mostly just old people and young people speak it, but young people tend to only speak it as a second language. It's considered one of the oldest languages in the world, and has no traceable connection to any other modern language.
I find it all very interesting. Sorry for the tangent.
