Although you should probably make sure that your midi to usb is an actual converter, although I don't think it comes any other way that I'm aware of.

As an aside, your post makes me wonder when you say "write midi music" and "produce it". What is it that you're trying to ultimately accomplish with midi, if you don't mind me asking?
Thanks so much for the response, Freebase! I'll order one soon and get back to you all on my progress.

As for my goal with midi music, I'd like to use it to create recordings of tunes I've written, backing tracks, and...I guess I'm not entirely sure what else.
