I loved Unforgiven II, and the 1st for that matter. I guess I just enjoyed lighter songs as well as heavier songs. Don't know who's the wisest; those who like the light songs or those who detest them...? That is basically what it comes down to, right? Who's the heavier metal head than the next. I love Kill 'Em All, which was their rawest, and in my opinion their heaviest. But I also love the Black Album. Sometimes I'll never understand the hatred towards lighter songs.

It doesn't come down to wisdom, man, and I do like some softer Metallica songs. I just don't like The Unforgiven I, II, III, or the albums that they appeared on. Hetfield can't sing worth a ****. Whenever James sings, it sounds like that one guy who everyone knows that tries to really sing along with the radio, until 3 people simultaneously tell him to shut the **** up. The thing is, a lot of people can't accept ****ty vocals as being a good enough reason for not liking a song/artist.
If the music was as good as it was on the first four albums, it'd be a completely different story. I can listen to bands when the vocalist has gone to ****, or even if the vocalist is very annoying to listen to, as long as the music is still good as a whole. Metallica just tries to create songs that get played on the radio a lot, and some people might make exceptions for music that's intended to sell a lot of copies. I don't, and if I think something sucks, I don't give two ****s whether it was intended to sell millions of copies, or if it was intended to bomb in order to get out of contract, it ****ing sucks.
Metallica has ****ing sucked for as long as I've been alive, and the only reason I think of them as one of my all time favorite artists is because the strength of their first four albums. Kill Em All through Master of Puppets gets them a pass, but they should have retired 25 years ago.
Oh, and Slayer rapping/nu metal:
