Surprisingly enough, most people in my town didn't feel that way in the 90s. We were a mix of third wave and 90s pop punk, but with a political edge (I know..). The event people and the cops were the ones that didn't like us, and during a show at this 5k run benefit thing, they tried to shut us down because the crowd was getting a bit too moshy, and our lyrics were apparently "politically anarchic".
When they tried to shut us down, the trumpet player jumped off the stage after yelling something at the cop, ran through the crowd with the cop in chase, and everyone in the crowd were getting to that tipping point.

They cut the power, and our singer just kept on with the lyrics, screaming into the crowd. I kept on playing my drums.

After it was all said and done, the biggest blow to the event people was that we won first prize. The show had a big gift certificate to a local music shop, based on the audience votes for the best band, and they had to give it to us.

We were by far the worst.
But we almost started a riot. At least, some semblance of one.
The mob liked it.
