Richie's opening set at Woodstock was one of the most memorable performances I've ever seen!
I read an interview with him many years ago, where he mentioned that the event organizers had told him to perform a longer than usual set because a lot of the acts were having a difficult time getting to the festival.
He said he finally ran out of songs, so he started improvising on the spot and came up with the song "Freedom."
That's the type of live performance that separates the genuine artists from the posers!
He played a lot of shows near me over many years but I never got around to seeing him.
Another good one gone.
R.I.P.
