I drink whey protein shakes for most of my protein, but it's expensive. But I also won't eat meat because I'm a curmudgeonly vegetarian. Fish or poultry may suffice for your protein.
As for multigrain bread as it relates to IBS, you definitely should check the ingredients to make sure that it's not just white bread mixed with other whole grains. Plain whole wheat is better than that, if you must eat bread and can't afford spelt (which is still fairly glutinous).
But if it's cost that you're worried about then I suggest plain rice (cheaper than any bread) for your starch/carb fix.
