Of course not, that's like saying that books printed in Comic Sans font are only for children. It shouldn't matter what the medium is, it's the content that applies to the demographic. Some can accomplish some aspects of storytelling such as imagery and verbose better than others, but that falls down to preference.
If you told someone that you liked [x] so much that it's your favourite movie, and they suggest [y] film because it's an anime film that is not only very similar, but it's far better. Would you refuse to look at it because of the way that it's presented to you?
On the note of clean animated cartoons, it may not be easy for some, but it is possible to be funny without being blue.
