link), so the shift of the Catholic Church's center of gravity from Europe to the Third World has implications beyond the race of the Pope. Obvious implications, for secular people of the Leftist and Libertarian persuasions, include the rather draconian view of Homosexuality which is prominent in the Third world as well as the growing religious conflict in Africa & portions of Asia between Christians and Muslims. This shift of gravity has been the subject of numerous books, and the far right is certainly aware of it (
link). Even PBS is aware of the phenomenon of "Reverse Missionaries" (
link), who are some of the strangest creatures you'll ever have the misfortune of running into. I myself had an encounter with a Nigerian man who not only insisted that racism was solely attributable to Darwin's theory of natural selection but became irate when I pointed out Christianity's role in imperialism and slavery.
